About the Lab

About the Lab

Formed in 2018, Petersen Lab is a clinical physiology lab in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the Department of Radiology at the University of California San Diego. Petersen Lab is interested in how the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems respond to stressful physical conditions and focuses on research in the following areas:

  • Space Physiology

  • Sports Medicine

  • Medical Device Development

  • COVID-19 Related Ventilator Research as a member of AVERT


Petersen lab has two locations: the Structural and Material Engineering Building and in the Engineering Building Unit 2 in Warren College at the University of California, San Diego.

Parking is available in Lot P508 and in the Gilman Parking Structure .

Directions to Lab

Parking Information for visitors:

From I-5, take the La Jolla Village Drive exit, and go west, then make a right on Villa La Jolla Drive.

For metered parking, go straight into the Gilman Parking Structure (at the corner of Gilman and Russell Lane) where metered parking is available on the 1st and 2nd levels. For other metered spaces, make a right on Gilman, then make a left on Voigt Drive and head west to Lot P508 in Warren College.

From the Gilman Parking Structure

Walk north on Russell Lane, to the end of the street, then turn right (east) on Lyman Lane. You will see the SRMD building on your left. Immediately right after also on your left is the Structural and Material Engineering (SME) building.

From Lot P508

Cross Matthews Lane after leaving Lot P508 at the intersection of Matthews Lane and Voigt Drive. The SME building will be located on the southern side of Matthews Lane.
